The last 3 weekends have been busy for the intrepid girls. August 30th saw us at Penrith sprint Tri, excellent event for novices or teams, bit hilly on the bike, but most importantly good T’shirt and a pasta dinner afterwards! Following Sunday the 6th September saw us at Cockermouth , another good event for novices over the sprint distance and a chance to win a prize! Week three saw Rose warm-up on the Saturday with the Great North Swim in preparation for Newbiggin on the Sunday. This event was aimed at novice open water swimmers, well you cannot get more novice than Sue! The course was 750M in the sea, a quick flat 20Km on the bike and a pleasnat, almost flat 5Km along the promenade. Well run event lots of support in the water and on the bikes, really would recommend for all levels to give this a try next year. The promeade offers good viewing for spectators, cafe’s and pub’s are open. Competitors got a free cup of Tea and a scone! Good buffet and T’shirt too. OK! I know its not all about the freebies and food…It’s about the personal achievement and Sue cetainly is proud of a sea swim, and if any of you have seen her in the Tarn you would know how scared she is…well was! There are lots of pictures of Newbiggin on their web site, look out for Phil Bell, Jan Oliver (prize winner) Claire Jackson ( also got a prize). Its been a great season and Rose and I have plans for next year, who’s going to join us?
