One solitary member of One Life Racing Huw Oliver (+ support driver!) ventured into the chilly hills of North Yorkshire for his first full venture into the world of triathlons. His swim time put him into the last wave of swimmers (with one competitor in a GB trisuit!) which was a little disconcerting but the 500m pool swim was soon completed and it was off into the best part of the race – the bike! The water bottle soon parted company with the bike as he flew down the very rutted and steep field and off into the magnificant grounds of Ampleforth College. A nice drift around a sharp tarmac bend made Huw loo
se a few seconds (how do you mamage to scrape both elbows and end up facing the following competitors?) as he picked his bike up but he managed to overtake a good few competitors on the 14k ride, the single track sections being the favourite. The 5k run started down a steep bank which also funnily enough also had to be negotiated back up to the finish! It sapped the strength of many runners but Huw gritted his teeth and overtook a few more! He finished in a very commendable overall 15th place out of a field of 105 and the first junior male.
