Derwent Duathlon 2022

Three One life members took part in the Sprint Derwent duathlon. The duathlon consists of a 5K run – 20K bike – 2.5K run. The 1st run was on trails around the Derwent country park starting on the dam, at the end of the run it was into transition for a quick change of shoes, helmet on and fastened, and then out onto the bike. The route left the Country park and followed the road alongside the reservoir before looping up and round before descending into Blanchland and then climbing back out to return along the road back to the Country park. After a quick change back into running shoes, the second run was an out and back through the park in the opposite direction.

Jess Sails (Junior), competing in her North East Triathlon Academy tri-suit finished as 1st lady after leading from to start to finish. She finished 7th overall in 1:15:10 only 6 minutes behind the overall leader, a fantastic result.

Brendon Jackson (55-59) put in a strong performance and was 2nd in his age group. Less than a minute behind 1st place and 14th overall.

Rose Todhunter (60-64) was 1st in her age group. Finishing 53 overall out of 98 finishers.

If anyone is thinking about taking part in a Duathlon this is a good race to start, very friendly, supportive and low key event. It is one of the few events where mountain and hybrid bikes can be seen racked up beside solid wheel time trial bikes!!
