Forest cycling: next ride Sunday 11th February at Dukeshouse Wood

Forest Cycling (Winter 2018)

We are continuing the series of off-road bike rides (including some coaching) using forest trails and similar routes in the Hexham area.

The next ride at Dukeshouse Wood will be suitable for Tri-starts and T1s but will has more demanding options to challenge older riders.

I know that several children were cold last time and some didn’t enjoy the ride. In the past we have been very lucky to avoid a combination of cold weather and strong winds at the same time … last month we had both.
The weather forecast is also cold for the coming week so we will try some improvements to reduce the risk of that:
1. A more thorough clothing check before we start riding.
2. Regroup after 10-15 mins with a careful check of riders’ condition and how well they are dealing with the terrain. If appropriate, we will split into two groups at that point. This requires someone else to lead one group … I’ll bring an extra map.

Bikes: mountain bike, cyclo-cross or hybrid (NOT suitable for road bikes/tyres)
Correctly fitting helmets and suitable clothing to be worn (note that the ride locations may be several degrees colder than the Tyne valley!)
Children to be accompanied by nominated adults.

Next dates:
SUNDAY 11th February at Dukeshouse Wood
Saturday or Sunday 10th/11th March (probably at Slaley Forest … but open to other suggestions)

Time:
Meeting at 1:30pm for a prompt 1:45pm start. Plan to end at 3pm.
It is likely to be too cold to wait for latecomers!

Dukeshouse Wood Location:
On B6306, Slaley road, just South of Hexham; park after the Jehovah’s Witnesses building

Please let me know if you plan to come or if you need more information.
